“Today’s Garden"

24" x 30"

oil on canvas, custom framed

Today stands between the past and the future potential. Symbolic of this, is the aged tree, which shows the weathering of hardship after winter, yet still standing in it’s majesty in the now, in the springtime.  Trees in ancient lore are references to wisdom, and “The Tree of life," symbol of eternal life in union with God, and “The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil," represents the choices we make as humans with respect to God, and mankind. The seasons change in nature, and in our lives as people. The garden with it’s beautiful flowers represents today, and both are on the path, which encourages one to be in the beauty of the moment. Within the Garden is a statue of a girl with her hands on her hips, a symbol of the gardener, and is one of faithful stewardship, oversight, and planning. The new grass, moving in the breeze, and the windmill in the background is a reference to the wind. It symbolizes an unforseen dynamo representing change, energy, industry, and us using the wind to move forward, and give movement and direction, as the windmill is designed to turn and catch the wind.  The humble fence gives guidance, and the humble dwellings are small, almost minor to what is happening in the foreground, but symbolize hope for the future.
